A nice little trip

#1

Travel wise both ways was smooth although I still
have problems with Southwest and thier boarding
plan. Very happy with our rooms (da boys got thier
first room alone) they are still very nice and big and
I had my favorite spot, fifth floor golf course view.
We never have been to any restaurants at SOG other
than Mangino’s (once a top five pick on site) but it
was very disappointing this time around complete
menu change and it was lousy. IMHO they need to
get a tough person to over see all of thier restaurants
and do a complete change over. The rest of SOG’s
service housekeeping and the such is still very good.
I cancelled all of our ADR’s except our favorite one
the Yachtsman Steak House we had a very nice meal
and we were not surprised. The Christmas night
dessert party was also very nice with all kinds of sweet
stuff with coffee and tea. And we might have had the
best spot for the fireworks of all! The parks for the most
part were packed but we are morning folks so we got
out before the masses came. The best park of our trip?
Universal! This was one of our warmer days we went
early the two parks were both very clean, the restrooms
in my many trips always had a cast member there to
clean. Music in the air, very nice people, clean parks
what a country! Jimmy Buffet’s place was IMHO was a
lousy meal. All other meals off site were very good I
for one did not miss WDW’s other restaurants. Good
deal for me Universal was giving veterans a free multi
day ticket although I could use it just one day but still
good for them. And also even though I did not recieve
any word in the sky from the good lord, sitting on my
fifth floor balcony I had for the few time in years a very
good cigar a few Sam Adams and Andre Bocelli on my
walkman looking out at nature and golfers I cannot see
anyone in WDW happier than myself. I don’t see us doing
WDW for a few years maybe we will take Helena’s sisters
young family then we will see.

I was thinking of doing SoG Sept2011, I have read many reviews that the transportation is not good. Is it worth not staying at a disney resort? We did POR in 2007, Pop in 2008, and are doing BLT and BCV in 2010. We like the dining plan so the kids have guarenteed down time and get to do a lot of the character meals. I’m interested in your thoughts. I’m a veteran so I can only go in Sept or Jan.

I have heard the same about their tranasportation and have also heard that many people walk to the TTC to use it’s transporation as it’s faster and more efficient. Something to consider.

Sounds like this was a very nice trip, Frank. Thanks for posting - pictures, are there pictures?
Also, did you let them know at SOG that their restaurants stink? (just wondering, squeaky wheel and all)

Reading TRs make me want to go back SOON!

Just had to do this to pat myself on the back. YAY, 100 posts!

Congrats on the posting, us newbies have to cheer each other on!

It’s been a few years since we stayed at SoG but we had no issues with transportation. It’s different than Disney transportation, it’s run on a schedule rather than just luck. A couple of time we drove to where we were going and a couple of times we used the monorail at the Poly but the rest of the time we used SoG transportation.

The resort is beautiful and the rooms are huge.

Even though we are dvc now, my family has a lot of military in it. I think I may convince them to get us some rooms.

No pictures Dopey other than my lovely wife
da boys stink too much and I am best left off
and kind of picture. I did indeed let them
know of my disappointment with thier restaurants.
When we got home I had an e-mail from SOG and
they wanted to know of our trip and so I did what
I do best bth! But in a nice way.
I don’t want to sound like we don’t like SOG, in
fact we love it there. Da boys never have had any
problems with the buses I think DT was right when
she said its more on a schedule than Disney’s.
I just want better food, bring back my Mangino’s:crying:

No worries, I didn’t take it that way.

Sounds like you had a nice time, though I’m sorry about the SoG dining situation:(
