This recently appeared in the Orlando Sentinel:
Memorabilia collectors have learned from invitations received last week that next year’s Disneyana convention will be a sharply trimmed-down event. For starters, Disneyana will be three days, down from the traditional five days. And its status is being reduced to “event” from “convention,” according to the invitations. The dates for next year are Aug. 22-24.
The 2002 event also will be less lavish. No banquet with seven courses and wine. Instead, the big meal will be a breakfast.
In the past, when collectors traveled to Disney World for Disneyana and needed a hotel room, they were housed at the Contemporary Resort, where convention facilities are available for merchandise displays and shopping.
But next year the event-goers’ quarters will be switched to two Disney World resorts that have struggled of late: The mostly closed Port Orleans resort and the Yacht and Beach Club, where the Galley restaurant was recently shuttered.
