My October Trip

#1

Well, here was my 4 day / 3 night getaway that is going sour.

October 2nd, grab the kids out of school and head to WDW, check in to the Contemporary and head to the MK for MNSSHP! Why? Because Thursday will be less crowded than Friday’s. And Epcot is having it’s evening EMH that day, so, while everyone else is enjoying the Friday MNSSHP, I will have a near empty Epcot! Friday morning is AK, because Epcot has evening EMH. Did I mention everyone will be at MK Friday night? Saturday is easy. Morning EMH at HS and spend the day there. Nobody will be there in the evening because everyone will want to spend the evening in MK because of two days of MNSSHP! Sunday will be my other MK day. My ADR’s were…oh heck, does it even matter?

I asked my 8 year old daughter what she would do if her favorite person in the world closed Disney for a night or two not allowing all the other kids whose parents were taking them for the first time to get in. She got really mad if Hannah Montana would do that. I then asked her what if it was Hannah’s Birthday. She said she would rather go to Disney than Hannah Montana’s birthday, but, she would still be mad. I asked her if she would be mad at Disney too. Yes, if they let her close Disney.

I decided not to change my vacation dates. Just my destination. We are going to Universal Studios for the first time as a family and my first time in over 10 years. I know they probably won’t care about me $2,000.00. But, someone had to step up for all of those folks who have had to make changes and it is their first time. Maybe some others will follow suit. Maybe not. At this point, I am just a bit too upset to even think about pixie dust. You would think they would have given the 180 day advance notice or at least done it on a Tuesday and Wednesday during that time of the year instead of a weekend when those of us who go 3-4 times a year plan to go. I am all Blehed out.

If you’re staying at Universal, I’d suggest the Hard Rock over Portofino or Royal Pacific. This is because you can walk to the Studios and it isn’t much more of a walk to IOA than from the boat landing. (Cut through the pool area to the hotel’s back entrance gate.) Also, I suggest staying at one of Universal’s hotels because the big perk that hotel guests get is your room key is your unlimited express pass to all rides and cost nothing extra, unlike the Universal Xpress Pass that other guests can buy, which are only good one time on any one ride. Let me tell you, it’s really nice to go around and around, bypassing most of the line for Spiderman and Dueling Dragons in IOA as well as MIB and The Simpsons in Universal Studios.
And MIB is much much better than Buzz Lightyear and there is nothing at all in WDW that equals Spiderman!

Oh yeah, my dog liked staying at the Hard Rock as well! The Universal/Loew’s hotels are dog friendly and you are allowed to bring your dog and let him stay in the room, unlike Disney.

tonyksl… please go into detail a little more! I am not understanding what your concerns are. How are the MNSSHP and EMH messing up your trip? Can you make adjustments to your schedule so you can still stay at WDW and enjoy the party?

#4

It’s not those things. It’s the Magic Kingdom closing early both weekend nights so that Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) can have her private birthday party.

#5

Oh I see. Well, that is definitely a challenge. But maybe MK for MNSSHP the night before, and then other parks on the nights of the party?

Wow, I am surprised they’d shut it down for two consecutive nights. That seems sort of rotten. And who gets to go to the party, I wonder?

I’d put money on various Disney executives and staff, as well as a couple hundred “personal” friends.
Anybody want to take bets on the “Fab 5” performing the Achy Breaky dance in front of the castle?

LOL!
Can I be one of her personal friends? I could go for a nice little private party. I wonder if they have all the rides open if it’s just a bunch of stuffed shirts and photogs…

I’d put money on some of the rides being open, but not all, or even most.

Definitely staying at the Hard Rock. I don’t have a dog, so that’s okay. Thanks for the info.

I chose Oct. 2nd for the MNSSHP because there was one on Oct. 3rd as well. It looked like a perfect weekend for me…I only go when there isn’t a crowd. They cancelled the Oct. 3rd date. Which sort bothers me because A) The people who bought their tickets for the 3rd had to change or get a refund for the date. The people who changed are going to pick a day they are most likely there, hence the 2nd or 5th. More people is not something I like. B) Since Oct. 3rd would have been the busier of the 2 days most likely, the evening EMH at Epcot would have been less crowded as well. Now, my Thursday and Friday are more crowded. Then, they took away the MK on Saturday night the 4th. So much for there not being a Saturday crowd at HS. Mind you, I live in Florida and can go 3-4 times a year. But, there are people out there who have spent years saving for their first trip to go to Disney World. They come to this site, as well as others, for info and to find out what is so special about this place. We tell them how great the place is and how well they take care of their patrons. They make their plans to go this weekend, it could have been any weekend mind you, as we suggest them to. Make your ADR’s 180 days in advance. Get the room you want. The schedules will be up. Best places to eat. Best touring suggestions. This is what we come here to do for the new folks. Then Disney does something like this to them. This upsets me more than anything. There is a mom and dad out there who is saving their lunch money to make their 4 or 5 year old see this magic we talk about and because one little 16 year old girl wants a birthday party at Disney this weekend, hundreds, if not thousands, of kids dreams are dashed because the MK is closed. A little too harsh on it? I don’t think so. They could have known they were going to do this 180 days in advance. They didn’t put up the hours. For all of those parents who booked their first dinner at CRT, LTT or CP for a character meal they promised to their own little princess. For those folks who are only going to get here once and not get to see all they could because of this one night. Heck, the park was supposed to close at 9 PM on Sat. The girl is 16. Grad Nites start at 10 PM. They want to tape it? Fine. Do it during non-business hours or give us 180 days advance notice. I am rambling here. I have just decided to spend my money, and my 8 yr. old daughter’s money, on other things.

I didn’t think you did have a dog. I don’t anymore either, but it was really nice to not have to stress him out with a stay in the Epcot kennels (which used to be the only one you could leave your pet overnight) or stressing him out at a kennel back home if you don’t need to.
I do regret not getting a pic of Boris in front of the Universal globe when we took him up to match my Boris/Epcot avatar.
We maintained Universal APs from 99-2004, but let them lapse because they kind of stopped adding in new attractions and we could do both parks in one day. Also, IOA is in serious need of a new coaster almost 10 years after they opened, as much as I love the Hulk and the Dragons.

It will all be new to the kids. Sunday would be the Sea World day anyway. I am sure they are going to want to stick with Disney.

I just got off the phone with Disney and asked them about Oct 3 . . . she said she had not heard a rumor HM was making an appearance on the 3rd, but YES that MK was still closing at 7pm on that night with NO MNSSHP!

SO … . where did you hear that is was HM?

There are only boards giving out rumors. But, Disney isn’t denying the rumors either. Neither is HM. The thing I noticed is that in one day, all of the Contemporary Tower MK View and Lake View rooms, Poly MK view rooms and most of the GF rooms sold out.

#15

Ah, I see tonyksl… that is a bummer! I guess for MC, it pays to be earning a gazillion dollars for Disney every year! I can see that you’d be upset. Sorry you are having to deal with last-minute changes!

#16

Right . . . I see! Well the CM I spoke to said she had NOT heard it was HM, but that yes the hours for MK were still 7pm on the 3rd.

Bummer!

I’m going to MNSSHP on the 21st of OCT, and there is not a lot of rooms available that weekend either . . . she said FL Residents are filling the rooms with “staycations”

#17

We’ll be doing Sea World next year, after the Manta Ray flying roller coaster opens.
Side note: this is exactly the kind of coaster I suggested would be a perfect Peter Pan themed coaster in my dreamed of “Disney’s Coaster Kingdom”.
Back to your situation, the whole thing stinks like yesterday’s diapers!
I’d also say the fact that all those monorail resorts all went to full for those days so fast only reinforces the rumored Miley Cyrus closings over that weekend, especially when coupled with the cancellation of a Halloween party.

We’re going the same night. We’ve gone to WDW most years during this same week as the 22nd is our anniversary. The WDW Buick PGA Tournament is an annual event that happens this very same week every year as well. That’s why it can be hard to get rooms where and when you want.
In 2004, I was trying to get into the Contemporary, but had to settle for the Poly. Suddenly, about a week or 10 days before our arrival, a club level room opened up in the tower, which is what I’d wanted. I was able to switch and kept it a secret until we were having breakfast at Chef Mickey’s the morning we were checking in. I was almost able to keep the surprise going, except when we pulled into the carport, they were already expecting us and escorted us up to the concierge check in on the 12th floor.

I meant we are going on the 24th! DUH!

I tried to get AKL or WL . . . but they are BOOKED for that weekend! OH well at $49/night at the values, I just added another day!

We’re in the WL, checking in on the 18th. I was considering possibly adding Friday the 24th, but I’m not sure if we will or won’t. As I’ve posted in plenty of threads lately, it’s still likely that rooms will become available closer to the actual day. Or I could just do one night in a value if we really must stay one more night.
