This is the coolest special event in a long time!

#1

It has been a seriously long time since I read about a special dining event that I would have moved heaven and earth to participate in… This one was from last month, a special event for Tables In Wonderland card holders.

It was for a special AFTER HOURS dinner at The Great Movie Ride!!! They walked in and food was being served in all the movie rooms – appetizers in the gangster room, dinner in the cowboy room! I can’t believe I missed this!

They walked through the attraction on foot, it looks like… can you imagine how cool that would be?

Here is a link to a description and photos of the night (from someone else). I am so jealous!!!

On that webpage, the author shows a ton of photos… here are two of the most amazing, which are the tables set up in the cowboy room, and the other is of the entertainment!

Here is another incredible photo that the author took – dessert in Oz!

That looks incredible – even more reason to get an AP!

What a fantastic experience- I would have loved to have done that, GMR is one of my fave rides.

oh my gosh!! How amazing would that be!!! The pictures were incredible. I love that even a special event has a storyline with the director and all - true Disney style!

This looks so cool.
I’m curious. What time did this go on??
Where did the guests park?? I remember being at a special conference event in '02 at MGM. Went by bus from the GF and came in another entrance… not sure where. Did the guests come in the main gate at the DHS or did they use another entrance.
How many guests were at this event??
Who sets this up??
I am a TIW (Tables in Wonderland) card holder and I have been getting more invitations about additional dinners. They look really neat. Who does set these up??? Is there a TIW chef that runs it???
Thanks for any information.

Frank, I just sort of found this stuff out on that site I posted. I too get TIW invitations, but nothing has ever coincided with a planned trip and we live too far away to zip over for dinner. Wish I had more information, but all I have is jealousy! LOL

Frank, these sort of events are organized through Disney’s Catering & Convention Services. I held a private event in the Studios park, nothing that fancy but if you look at my December TR you can see all the details. My guests did come through the front gate (that may not be typical for a HUGE group, we only had like 22 guests) & we had a “party escort” (a CM from Guest Services) who escorted my guests from the front gate to the party location & stayed with us should we need to go back & forth. Guests with cars also parked in the regular parking lot but I was told if they gave the gate guard the details of the special event they wouldn’t be charged for parking.

Sometimes TiW DOES bring in special chefs to do events (like I did a special “dessert” demonstration with chef Alice Medrich years ago) but generally all catered events are serviced by the Catering & Conventions planners, staff, chefs, & bakers.

When you use a space like the Great Movie Ride, I was told at least, that it has to be either before or after park hours… depending (like if you wanted to get married at Cinderella’s Castle it would have to be before or after). There are varying flat rates JUST to use the space, then you have minimum expenditures that must be reached depending on the location.

Obviously a Disney organization was running this one, TiW does a lot of them, so I am sure not all the typical space rental & expenditures apply to them but I do know most of the information for guests who want to plan private events.

Wow. Thanks for all the information. Seems like WDW is expanding their offerings beyond the normal park hours, etc. Great to see.
Kinda makes me want to relocate to Orlando just to be around all these cool events, not to mention Food & Wine, etc. <g>

My wife had a question.
How many tickets can a person buy for these events??
If I have a TIW card, can I buy for my family?? We have adult kids.

Wow, that would have been something cool to participate in.

All of a sudden, I could picture DS’s rehearsal dinner in Oz, before a beautiful wedding at the Pavilion.

No, he’s not engaged. I am just dreaming.

#14

Does anyone know how much this cost? Looks like a ton of fun

#15

#16

Allow me to join you in jealousy…I got the e-mail…and I had a thought, but talked myself out of it…did the right thing…when you do the right thing, aren’t you supposed to feel good about your decision??

#17

$160 per person, gratuity included.
