Saw this on FB! Just when I thought I wasn’t going to renew my APs!!
Disney World has released some details about the next Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, which will run March 2-May 15, 2011. Guests will notice a change right at the gate – all-new topiaries representing characters from “Toy Story 3” will reside in the front entrance flower bed.
Look for king-size versions of Buzz, Woody and Lotso – yes, he’ll be strawberry-scented – alongside a sand castle and playground toys just before the theme park’s iconic Spaceship Earth. It’s the first time in the 18-year history of the festival that “Toy Story” characters have been represented. And it’s the first time in seven years that the front display has sported all-new topiaries.
The “Toy Story” set was not without obstacles…
“Woody is skinny, and it was a challenge to create his legs,” say Eric Darden, festival horticulture manager. “The detail on Buzz is pretty daunting.”
Other Disney- Pixar characters involved will be from “Cars.” Floral topiaries of Lightning McQueen and Mater will be in the World Showcase plaza along with floral flags of Japan, Italy, France and the United Kingdom, which, not coincidentally, are spots seen in the upcoming “Cars 2” movie.
Meanwhile, a topiary of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and company will be in a wildflower display between World Showcase and Future World. (The “Winnie the Pooh Movie” debuts this summer.)
Fresh to the festival will be an expanded butterfly house, now called Bambi’s Butterfly House, which will be triple the size of past years and in a new location — the Imagination Walkway near Innoventions West.
Other new elements will include the Healthy Living Garden, Rapunzel’s Tower in the Tangled Magical Garden (between the Germany and Italy pavilions), a festival center stage, and new-to-the-Flower Power performers Juice Newton, Melissa Manchester and Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr.
